ROI/Scanning Specialist
POSITION TITLE: RELEASE OF INFORMATION / SCANNING SPECIALIST

REPORTS TO: MEDICAL RECORD DIRECTOR

I. POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs all functions relative to release of information. Protects and safeguards the patient’s right to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information. Ensures that all releases of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy, and HIPAA statutes. Provides customer service to patients/customers via telephone and in person. Scans paper documents into patients’ electronic health record.

II. EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
A high school graduate or equivalent.
Excellent computer skills.
Knowledge of HIPAA laws and regulations.
Previous experience in a medical office or medical records department preferred.
Successful completion of on-the-job training.

III. CUSTOMER FOCUSED EXPECTATIONS:
While performing the essential functions of this position, the staff member must strive to keep the mission, vision, and values of the Fulton County Medical Center, and be committed to the improvement and best interests of the facility and the services the Medical Records Department provides.

IV. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or an insignificant amount of force
frequently or constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work
involves sitting most of the time on a hard or cushioned chair, but may also involve walking
throughout the facility or standing for brief periods of time. Bends and squats occasionally.
Reaches occasionally up to two feet overhead/in front of oneself. Manual dexterity adequate for
utilizing a keyboard/mouse and processing paperwork. Finger dexterity and frequent
reaching is necessary during a normal shift in order to operate various office machines. Near-
visual acuity is required for performing various clerical functions and for deciphering fine print.
Auditory acuity adequate for hearing telephone conversations, normal voice tones when not
facing the individual, overhead pages, etc.

V. TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:
Ability to communicate in both verbal and written form.
Ability to speak, read and write the English language.
Ability to organize with attention to detail.
Ability to handle pressure of meeting deadlines.
VI. WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clean, well-ventilated, indoor environment. May require sitting for
uninterrupted periods of time.
