Certified Coding Specialist
Position is primarily responsible for abstracting patient medical data from the medical record to appropriately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes on each Same Day Surgery, Long Term Care, and other outpatient visits. Position also provides coverage for inpatient, ambulatory surgery, Emergency Department and other outpatient visits as needed. Accurately sequences codes according to UHDDS guidelines, basic coding principles and hospital specific coding guidelines. Assigns CPT-4 procedure codes to Same Day Procedure, Emergency Department and Special Procedure medical records while maintaining a 95-100% accuracy rate. Validates the accuracy and sequencing of assigned ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM codes to assure the correct DRG/ARP DRGs are assigned, while maintaining a 95-100% accuracy rate.
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Thorough understanding of the effect of data quality on prospective payment and outpatient reimbursement. Solid understanding and command of the ICD9-CM classification system and diagnosis related group (DRG) methodology. Previous coding experience in ICD9-CM, ICD-10-CM, and CPT4/CHPCS required.
